Tips and tricks

Putting your own designs on clothing has never been easier! With a cutting plotter, flex foil, and a heat press, you can transform your creations into beautiful, wash-resistant prints in no time.
But even the most experienced creatives can sometimes encounter a few minor obstacles. That’s why we’re sharing our best tips and tricks to help you achieve professional results quickly and easily. Discover how to perfectly set up your cutting plotter and get the most out of your MagiCut flex foil.

The importance of the correct blade setting

The blade setting plays a crucial role in cutting flex film. Cutting too deeply can damage the film and make peeling more difficult. Cutting too shallowly can result in an incomplete cut.
Default setting: Start with the recommended instructions for the type of flex film in question.
Testing: Perform a test cut and attempt to peel the film.
Adjusting: Adjust the blade pressure until the film is cut cleanly and the backing is not damaged.

The overcut function

The overcut function is useful for cutting small details. This function allows the cutter to cut slightly further at the start and end points of a line. This reduces the chance that small pieces of film are not completely cut and come along during the peeling process.
Settings: The overcut value is usually expressed in millimeters. A value of 0.2 mm is often a good starting point.

Optimal settings may vary depending on the cutter model, type of flex film, and environmental conditions. Experiment with different settings to achieve the best results.

Multicolored Designs

For multi-colored designs, cut each color separately and then press it onto the fabric.

Tip: Press as many colors as possible simultaneously to optimize adhesion.
Avoid: Overlapping the flex foil, as this can reduce adhesion.
Peeling: Peeling small details can be difficult.

Tips

Use a strong adhesive backing: This will ensure that small details stay in place better.
Warm peeling: Heat the backing to reduce the adhesive strength.
Peeling frame: Use a peeling frame to make peeling easier.
Lighting: Ensure there is sufficient light to clearly see the cutting lines.
Pressure: Apply even pressure across the entire design.
Teflon: Avoid using Teflon, as this can affect adhesion.
Pressing: Follow the pre-pressing instructions.
