Frequently Asked Questions
I can’t print from TheMagicTouch Software?
Software Troubleshooting: Print Button is Greyed Out
It is frustrating when you open TheMagicTouch Software Basic or Pro, but the Print button is unavailable and the “Printer Selection” field is empty. Fortunately, this is usually easy to fix!
Below are the steps you can take to re-establish the connection between your printer and the software.
1. Check the Printer Connection
The most common issue is a simple connection problem.
USB Connection is Required: Ensure the printer is connected using a USB printer cable.
Cable Check: Always verify that the USB cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the computer.
Cable Length: Never use a USB cable longer than $\text{approx. 3 meters}$ ($\text{10 feet}$) to ensure a stable connection.
2. Verify Windows Printer Installation Status
The software relies on the printer being correctly recognized and installed by Windows.
Type “Settings” in the Windows search bar.
Go to “System Settings” (or just “Settings”).
Navigate to “Printers & Scanners.”
Check for your Printer: Confirm your printer model is listed here.
If it is not listed, you must first install the printer driver according to the instructions in the article: “Installing TheMagicTouch Software.”
Check Status: While in “Printers & Scanners,” check if the printer is listed as “Online.”
If it is offline, double-check the USB cable connection.
3. Troubleshoot the Software License File
The license must be correctly installed and named to match your specific printer.
A. Confirm License Installation & Serial Number
Open TheMagicTouch Software.
Go to the “Help” menu and select “About.”
Check if a license is installed and verify the serial number displayed.
Crucial Check: Does the serial number of the installed license match the serial number of your printer?
If they do not match, please contact us using the support form so we can assist you with the correct license file.
B. Correct the License File Name (The “(2)” Error)
Windows sometimes renames duplicate files, which prevents the software from reading the license correctly, even if the file is technically present.
Correct Name Format: TheMagicTouch\_AK12345567.license (where AK1234567 is your printer’s serial number).
Incorrect Name Example: TheMagicTouch\_AK12345567(2).license
The appended (2) must be removed.
If your file name contains these characters, please rename the file to the correct format.
C. Reinstall the Correct License
If the license is correct but the printer still isn’t recognized, an incorrect license may be cached. You need to delete the license file(s) and reinstall the correct one.
Software Version
File Path to Check – Action
BasicC:\ProgramData\TheMagicTouchB
Delete any license file(s) in this folder.
ProC:\ProgramData\TheMagicTouchPro
Delete any license file(s) in this folder.
Once the file is deleted from the corresponding folder:
Open the software.
Go to “Tools” -> “Install License.”
Reinstall the correct license file.
Note: Making Hidden Files Visible
The C:\ProgramData folder is typically hidden in Windows. To make it visible:
In the Windows Explorer window of the C-drive, go to “Settings” -> “Options” -> “View.”
Under “Hidden files and folders,” select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives.”
Click OK. The C:\ProgramData folder should now be visible in File Explorer.
If the steps above do not solve the issue, please contact us via the support form—we are happy to help!
