This article provides all the information you need to get started with transfer paper. We explain everything step by step and offer helpful tips.
This knowledge base provides a handy overview of various surfaces and substrates suitable for printing with transfer paper. Thanks to our years of experience, we expand this list weekly with new materials that our customers successfully print on.

Quick Start: 4 General Steps to a Perfect Transfer

While specific settings depend on your material (see the table below), successful transfer printing generally follows these four steps:

1. Design & Print

Mirror Image: Check the “Mirror Image?” column in the table. Print your design in reverse (Yes) for hard surfaces and most light textiles, or as is (No) for opaque papers (OBM, ORD).
White Toner: If using an LED printer, note when the table specifies White Toner Required for optimal color vibrancy on dark or colored substrates.

2. Prepare the Substrate (Pre-Press)

Textiles: For moisture removal and wrinkle reduction, Pre-Press textiles for the time indicated in the table (usually 5 seconds).
Hard Surfaces: Ensure the surface is clean and dry. Gently moisten substrates like book covers with a light water spray if instructed.

3. Heat Press Application

Settings: Set your heat press according to the specific Time, Temp, and Pressure listed in the main table for your material and paper type.
Accessories: Use recommended items like the T.pad (underneath) or Application Sponge (on top) for even heat and pressure distribution.

4. Peel & Finish (Post-Press)

Peel Type: Follow the Peel Instructions precisely (Hot, Warm, or Wet).
Post-Press: Re-press with a finishing sheet (Release Paper or T.Seal) as instructed to enhance durability, washability, and hand-feel.
